The Undivided Church

As Anglicans, we are a branch of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ. We profess the orthodox Christian Faith as received in the canonical Holy Scriptures, the three ancient Creeds, the historic sacraments and the ecumenical consensus of the Undivided Church, particularly of the Patristic era..

Thus, our priority is on maintaining the universal and historic faith. In his treatise Commonitory (c. 434), Vincent of Lerins defined the universal (i.e. orthodox) Church as.

that faith which has been believed everywhere, always, by all. … This rule we shall observe if we follow universality, antiquity, consent. We shall follow universality if we confess that one faith to be true, which the whole Church throughout the world confesses; antiquity, if we in no wise depart from those interpretations which it is manifest were notoriously held by our holy ancestors and fathers; consent, in like manner, if in antiquity itself we adhere to the consentient definitions and determinations of all, or at the least of almost all priests and doctors.

Or, as G.K. Chesterton said in Orthodoxy, “Tradition means giving a vote to most obscure of all classes, our ancestors. It is the democracy of the dead.”

About Oceanside Anglicans

Oceanside Anglicans is a mission of St. Matthew's Newport Beach, a church of the Anglican Catholic Church. As the ACC website summarizes:.

We [at the ACC] are not interested in being “blown by every wind of doctrine”. Trees deeply rooted do not succumb to passing breezes. We are sorry that so many of our Christian brethren have decided to take as their examples of life the passing whims and fancies of the popular culture. We are not trendy. We believe in an historic faith which is a “still point in a changing world”. The Church is a rock, a sure foundation on which we can build our own lives and the lives of our children.

We believe that this historic faith has proven to be a sure foundation for dealing with the vicissitudes of modern life. We offer Theology on Tap as an opportunity to meet the community and engage in deep conversations about the timeless nature of being, belief and salvation. We welcome others seeking fellowship and a liturgical expression of the ancient church and its historic teachings.
